Scottish giants Celtic haven’t been as active as their arch rivals Rangers this summer in their recruitments. The Hoops have signed merely three new players in the shape of Kundai Benyu from Ipswich Town, Jonny Hayes from Aberdeen and Olivier Ntcham from Manchester City to beef up their arsenal.
After winning the domestic treble last season, Brendan Rodgers’ men have seemingly appeared to be a side which is blended in a perfect manner and although it makes sense to keep the group cohesiveness intact, it is implied that adding a couple of more acquisitions to their arsenal would not be any sort of a foolish act.
Rodgers might have erected a strong command in the domestic competitions but he would need depth to fare in a handsome manner in the Champions League. The Celts have been linked with Hibernian’s talented midfielder John McGinn for quite some time now, and arguably, it is about time for the former Liverpool boss to up the ante and maraud towards the prospect of luring him to the Celtic Park.
McGinn thrived meticulously in the Scottish Championship in the central midfield role and orchestrated the Hibs to the stature of the Championship winners. He showed tremendous confidence, put his grit on display and was seamlessly comfortable with the ball. The Scottish international wasn’t sporadic, constantly struck the right notes and ensured that his offensive productivity enhanced the last term. Despite playing in a lower league, he has indeed shown that he has the calibre to ply his trade at the top level.
McGinn is a modern day footballer who doesn’t refrain from carrying responsibilities on his shoulders. He is a vibrant man in the middle of the park and always intends to keep himself busy. Besides, he has the hunger to prove himself week in and week out and lately, it is perceived that he is seen as a successor to Celtic’s Scott Brown. The analogy, in itself, is a testament to what is expected from him.
Celtic must be vouching for a candidate now to become the central figure of the club for years to come and someone like McGinn perfectly fits the bill. The 22-year-old won the Scottish Championship Player of the Season last campaign and he would be a complete package for the Glasgow based club owing to his skills, tenacity, shrewd passing abilities and tendency to get into the box to rattle the opposition’s defence. McGinn would be an astute signing and Rodgers should now be seriously considering the prospect of making him put his pen to the paper.
