According to reports, Real Madrid are eyeing Paris Saint Germain right back, Thomas Meunier. Los Blancos are on the verge of losing Danilo who has been on the radar of Chelsea for some time.
Life has become increasingly frustrating for Danilo who has failed to dislodge Dani Carvajal from the right flank. The Brazilian international has been one of the best in the business but Carvajal’s form has left him out of the squad.
Antonio Conte has been searching for a full back despite the resurgence of Victor Moses last season. Moses occupied the right wingback position last term and literally lit up the Premier League with his blistering performance on the wing.
But the lack of a backup plan has haunted Conte from time to time so he has prioritised the signing of a full back in the summer. Conte has already kick-started his summer shopping by roping in Willy Caballero from Manchester City, Antonio Rudiger from AS Roma and last but definitely not the least Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco.
Meunier’s meteoric rise throughout his career has been very commendable. The Belgian international arrived at the Parc des Princes in 2016 and went on to establish his authority in the Ligue 1.
He has racked up four assists and also found the net once. Madrid have identified the 25-year-old as an imminent replacement of Danilo but he is expected to be the second choice behind Carvajal in the ranks.
PSG recently secured the services of Brazilian defender Dani Alves and his arrival would drastically curtail Meunier’s game time. The former Barcelona and Juventus right-back is likely to be the preferred choice on the right side of the defence so it would be a difficult choice to make for the Belgian defender.
Madrid are ready to lodge a bid for the Belgian player but it remains to be seen whether the player accepts their proposal or he is not ready to leave the French capital before fighting for a place in the starting lineup.
PSG are not in hurry to take a decision as the player’s contract runs until 2020. The Spanish giants know the value of his contract and might have to shell something in the region of €35m to bring the player to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Madrid have brought in Theo Hernandez and Dani Ceballos as a part of their squad overhaul and are a whisker away from making the squad perfectly balanced and the arrival of Meunier would only enhance the quality of the current squad.
