Real Madrid have been a bit late to start their spending spree in the transfer market this summer, their first catch being the very talented left back Theo Hernandez from arch rivals Atletico Madrid. The Frenchman was sent to fellow La Liga side Alaves on loan in the last season, having been considered as surplus at the Vicente Calderon.
He has been one of the influential players for the Alaves side in the last season and helped them to reach the final of the Copa Del Rey, where they were eventually beaten by the Catalan giants Barcelona to secure the runner-up spot. The French full-back played in 38 games throughout the season for the side and was able to attract the attention of a number of clubs from all over Europe including the Premier League.
The Premier League biggie Manchester City reportedly made a bid to bring in the young Frenchman from Atletico Madrid in the last season, only to face rejection from both the player as well as the club, who were reluctant to let him go out of Spain.
Reportedly, Hernandez always had the desire to play for Real Madrid and has finally made his dream come true with a £22.8 million switch from Los Rojiblancos to Los Blancos this summer. However, he might have to play back-up to Brazilian ace Marcelo in the Galacticos outfit in the next season, with the veteran full-back Fabio Coentrao set to make a move to Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon this summer.
The young French player had a good season at Alaves and showed his skills for the side in all the 38 outings he had for them. He kept his side in advantage with his darting runs down the left flank apart from making inroads into the opposition defence, and also scored two crucial goals for his side. He also provided four assists for his teammates, helping them to score and gain advantage for the team.
Real Madrid is eyeing to bring in new players to revamp their side, especially in the defence, which has been an area of concern for their coach Zinedine Zidane in the last two seasons. The French legend let go of their Portuguese central defender Pepe as well, who has joined the Turkish Super Lig club Besiktas on a free transfer.
The Galacticos manager is eyeing a number of changes in the team to be brought in the new season, and are looking to land a strong squad which will be able to build on the tremendous performance of the last season.
