Rangers were miles behind their arch rivals Celtic in the domestic competitions last season and despite injecting their arsenal with many new acquisitions, the Glasgow based outfit have indeed struggled in almost all of their warm up games so far.
Their latest 1-0 loss at the hands of St. Johnstone was the testament to the perceptions that they are lacking the necessary ingredients to thrive and don’t have much of the group cohesiveness to show as well. Harsh questions have started to pave their way to Pedro Caixinha, and apparently, the fans aren’t convinced by the Portuguese so far either.
Amidst the unpleasant scenario which is hovering over the Gers, reports have emerged that Championship outfit Nottingham Forest are gearing up to lure Rangers’ no.1 goalkeeper Wes Foderingham to the City Ground. The Reds narrowly managed to evade from the clutches of the relegation zone last term as goal difference gave them the advantage over Blackburn Rovers.
Having seen the axe of relegation from so close, the Tricky Trees are seemingly likely to aim to better their credentials in the upcoming campaign and Foderingham has emerged as one of their latest targets.
Under the tutelage of Mark Warburton, Nottingham Forest have already signed Barrie McKay and considering the reports, it is perceived that he is set to plunder his former club by targeting the 26-year-old goalkeeper and thus, it will enable him in beefing up the quality of the goalkeeping slot.
Foderingham emerged through the youth ranks of Fulham and subsequently kept plying his trade on loan to various clubs whilst his stay at the Craven Cottage as well as with Crystal Palace at the Selhurst Park. Eventually, he started to get noticed during his days with Swindon Town and gradually started to get good reviews from the football fraternity.
The Teddy Bears knocked on his door in the summer transfer window of 2015 and irrespective of whether it was Warburton or Caixinha’s regime, he was and still is a valued commodity in the ranks of the Scottish outfit.
With Jak Alnwick and Liam Kelly, who are still in their learning stages, the two other options which the former Al Gharafa boss has, selling Foderingham could be a damaging move for Rangers as well as for the image of the manager himself.
It looks very likely that Forest are going to test Rangers’ resolve, but frankly speaking, given the quality Celtic have, it would not be very wise to strike the English goalkeeper off their books this summer.
