Despite the expectations, Manchester United have so far been able to add only two players to the side, Romelu Lukaku from Everton and Victor Lindelof from Benfica.
In the midst of the last campaign, everyone thought it was going to be another stressful season for the Red Devils but proving everyone wrong, Mourinho’s side steered through a rigorous campaign, eventually winning the Europa League on the final day of the season.
Despite getting back to winning ways, scoring goals has been a problem for United and Mourinho desperately wants to rectify this issue. United have been linked with a number of attackers and according to recent reports, the Red Devils are keeping a track on the movements of Real Madrid youngster Marco Asensio.
Asensio had a brilliant campaign for Los Blancos and turned out to be the find of the season. Despite playing just a handful of games, he did manage to make a mark of his own with his playing style.
Following a brief loan spell with Mallorca and Espanyol, Zinedine Zidane held on to him last season and the result has been quite brilliant. Zidane experimented him in a number of positions and he passed every test with flying colours.
The 21-year-old carried his form to the U-21 European Championship and was a sensation in the tournament. Sadly Spain had to settle with the Runners up medal as they were defeated by Germany in the final by a solitary goal.
Manchester United’s archrival Arsenal are also monitoring the player. The Gunners have so far failed to cater a move for Thomas Lemar and Wenger might fuel a move should the North Londoners fail with their bid for Lemar.
United have shown they can spend big for quality players and are ready to splurge cash to bring the Spanish international to the Old Trafford. Madrid will struggle to fit him in the star studded lineup but United will be able to provide him with regular game time.
Added to that, the arrival of Kylian Mbappe would put a big question on his future. There is growing speculations that Madrid might go big for the French prodigy and his arrival would endanger Asensio’s position at the club.
After the scintillating season, Madrid are not ready to let him go but the lure of playing in the Premier league could prove to be enough for him to earn a big money move to Old Trafford.
