Manchester United have made one of the biggest transfers in their history so far in terms of the fee paid for a player, as they brought in the Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku to the team in a staggering £75 million move from the Merseyside club Everton. The player, who was primarily destined to go to the defending Premier League champions Chelsea, has already started training with his new teammates in Los Angeles for the pre-season tour.
Having secured one of the best strikers in the Premier League for the next season, the Red Devils are now looking to bring in more young talents to the side and are looking to shift their focus towards the midfield, which has been a problematic area for the former Premier League champions in the last season.
Among a number of players who are eyed by the Portuguese coach of the Premier League outfit, Jose Mourinho, the 21 year old starlet from the German club Borussia Dortmund, Julian Weigl, has attracted a lot of interest with his outstanding display of skills in the last season, thus making himself one of the most wanted players in the current scenario.
The youngster was one of the most dependable figures for the German outfit in the last season and has attracted a lot of interests from a number of clubs from all over Europe, including the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester City.
The 21-year-old came into the club two years ago from fellow Bundesliga club 1860 Munich and has been an integral part of Borussia Dortmund, featuring in 94 matches for them.
Weigl is reported to have a release clause of £44 million, which has been slammed on him by his club. Manchester United is known to be one of the big spenders in European club football, and this deal might be on with the Red Devils keeping their tabs on the German enforcer.
The 21-year-old is also on the target list for Manchester United’s city rivals, Manchester City, who are also known to be big spenders. They have already shelled out a grand amount of money for securing two top class players, in the form of Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva, who was brought in for a staggering £43 million from French Ligue 1 champions AS Monaco and Brazilian shot-stopper Ederson for £35 million from Portuguese Primeira Liga champions Benfica.
Pep Guardiola, their current manager, might be interested in bringing in the talented youngster, as he looks to revamp his side for the summer. So United have to hurry up if they want to sign this Bundesliga enforcer.
