Manchester United are one of the busiest clubs in the transfer market this season and have already spent more than £100m this summer, adding a striker and a centre back to their armoury for the upcoming campaign. However, Jose Mourinho is not done, as he is plotting yet another sensational move this summer and is trying to lure one of the best midfielders in Europe to the club.
Italian genius Marco Verratti, who is one of the best players in his position at the moment, has recently changed his agent. He has signed with super-agent Mino Raiola, and this has sparked off a link, that makes loads of sense.
According to reports from the Sun, Manchester United are now front runners to land Verratti before the start of the next season. Also wanted by Barcelona who are desperate for his services, Verratti is a top class athlete who will walk into every squad in Europe at the moment and at Old Trafford, will fill a hole that is gaping for a while now.
Mourinho used a 4-3-3 system to decent effect last season which saw French international Paul Pogba play on the left-side of the midfielder three. Ander Herrera, who was superb last season, is expected to start on the other side but United do not have a player who can play as the deepest of the midfielders and here is where Verratti could be a blessing.
The 24-year old is a midfield tactician, who loves to sit back and dictate the game at his own pace. He has already made 134 Ligue 1 appearances, 21 international appearances and 36 Champions League games, acquiring some exciting experience at the highest level.
Technically gifted and unusually strong for his stature, Verratti is a hard-tackling midfielder, who is not afraid to put his body on the line for his team. He can create chances at will and also sit back and shut-shop when needed and is the perfect player for Mourinho’s system at Old Trafford.
His inclusion in the squad will allow Manchester United to play Paul Pogba in a slightly attacking role, lending enormous balance to the side. He is not going to come on the cheap but United have already spent enough, not to worry about the price. He is the right man to plug the hole in the midfield at United and with Michael Carrick as his back up, he will surely improve as a player in years to come. So do you think Manchester United should go all out for Verratti?
