All speculations regarding Marouane Fellaini‘s transfer have come to and as Jose Mourinho has shut all the doors for his move. In a very aggressive mood, the Portuguese gaffer has defined his plans for the Belgian midfielder who has been the subject of interest from a number of clubs. “It is easier for Galatasaray to get me than Marouane. Marouane forget it. He’s very important for me.” Mourinho said in a recent interview.
Former United manager David Moyes brought the player from Everton in 2013 as he wanted to have a complete control of the team. But Moyes’ dream was short lived as he had to leave the club after a very poor spell.
Fellaini has often been termed a much-degraded player in terms of quality but he often has proven his credentials for the Red Devils. United announced the signings of Nemanja Matic recently which will further decrease his playing time.
But the player right now is in a stage of his career where he can’t really claim a regular position in the first team in each match. Despite disappointing much throughout the season, Mourinho put his faith in the player and he repaid the trust with probably the most important goal of his career, a winner in the Europa League semi final.
Despite the speculation, he started in United’s friendly against Norwegian side Valerenga and quashed all the claims by opened the scoring in that match. He might not be the best player on the pitch, but very often, he takes the credit with his small but influential touch.
Last season too, whenever Mourinho needed him, he responded in a very positive fashion. His game reading quality is immense and he has the quality to change the speed of the game. A player of his height will be an asset to any team and Mourinho just needs to do the same.
The manager played him in almost every match in the pre-season and it might be the indication that the gaffer sees him as a regular player under his strategy. With less than a fortnight to go for the Premier League, it remains to be seen how he plans to use the player.
United fans have been very vocal about him but Mourinho has some other plans. United have a pretty hectic fixture list next season and they could use him pretty vigorously. Everybody would have been a delighted had he been offloaded but the Belgian is set to be in the thick of things for at least another season.
