Manchester United are expected to be one of the busiest clubs in the transfer market this summer as Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho is desperate to add some top quality stars to his side for the next season. The Red Devils have already spent on Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelof for the upcoming campaign but Mourinho will know that his squad needs further additions to be able to compete with the best next season.
This has seen them scout for some of the finest stars in world football and one player extensively linked with a move to Old Trafford is Inter Milan midfielder Ivan Perisic.
Linked with a move to Manchester United for more than a month now, the Croatian international is one of the most versatile attackers available in the transfer market this summer and reports from the Daily Mail claim that United are set to announce his signing in the next 48 hours.
Capable of playing anywhere in the front line or the midfield line, Perisic was mostly used as an attacking midfielder on the left flank, or as a winger, where he has been at his most productive. He picked up 16 goals and 10 assists for club and country in the previous campaign and has been in impeccable form recently.
Known for his strength and versatility, Perisic is a player who relies on short passes and counter attacks. He is strong with his defence, dominating in the air and is a player who is hard to dispossess. He can create chances as well as score on a regular basis while his ability to sit back and defend when needed will only attract Mourinho more.
The Red Devils have Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford playing on the left-flank while Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are options for the other flank. Perisic can take his place on either flank or also as a midfielder, which will allow Manchester United to stick to a 4-3-3 next season as well.
Spanish midfielder Andre Herrera, though linked with an exit, is expected to sign a new deal and Mourinho might use him as the deepest of the midfielders, using Paul Pogba and Ivan Perisic on either side of Herrera. This lends balance and creativity to the squad, which could be the difference next season.
However, at 28, he is not a long term option and at £44m, is a bit too expensive. But in this transfer market, as inflated as it is, Mourinho will have no problem spending on a player who can be an immediate asset next season.
