It appears that Manchester City whizkid Jadon Sancho is on the brink of a possible departure from the Etihad. The highly talented winger was left out of City’s tour to the US as he continues to stall over a new contract. City are reportedly ready to offer a three-year contract worth £30,000-a-week but Sancho believes he can find an alternative and an easier route to find first team football rather quickly.
Sancho’s longtime admirer Arsenal and their rivals Tottenham are monitoring his situation. However, it seems as if RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund are the latest clubs to be interested in the England Under-17 winger. Borussia Dortmund in particular, are excited about the progress of the youngster, per Mirror Sport.
So the question stands, should Sancho move to Germany in order to start his pro-career?
While clubs like Borussia Dortmund are basically a match made in heaven for most of the young and talented footballers, the Bundesliga hasn’t quite been the favourite league for the English players in recent years. RB Leipzig bought highly rated Scottish winger Oliver Burke last season but the former Nottingham Forest winger is yet to make a big impact in Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side.
RB Leipzig have already signed two well-established wingers this summer, in the shape of Bruma from Galatasaray and PSG starlet Jean-Kevin Augustine.
Both of whom are expected to be a vital part of Red Bull’s second season in the Bundesliga. Burke featured in only 617 minutes of Bundesliga action last season, where he scored only one goal and provided a couple of assists. Most of his appearances came as a substitute, mostly in the final phase of the game to inject more pace into RB’s play.
So the Bundesliga newcomers will have their hands full of star wingers, and also Oliver Burke, who will be looking to make a bigger impact this upcoming season.
But what about Borussia Dortmund?
Well, Dortmund too are pretty much star-spangled when it comes to the attacking department. The Ruhr giants have a flux of exceptionally talented world class individuals in their team. Marco Reus leads the pack, along with Ousmane Dembele, Christian Pulisic, Andre Schurrle and Maximilian Philipp from Freiburg. In addition, Mario Gotze, Gonzalo Castro and Raphael Guerreiro can also play in the wing position for Die Schwarzgelben.
Ousmane Dembele and Christian Pulisic, in particular, have caught the eye in the lead-up to their pre-season preparations under new coach Peter Bosz. So Jadon Sancho will have to be content with playing along with Borussia Dortmund reserves, in the fourth division of German football, in case he wants to move to Dortmund.
However, it seems as if the British footballers are slowly embracing the idea of playing outside the Premier League. Recently, West Ham defensive talent Reece Oxford moved to Borussia Monchengladbach on a loan deal.
But it’s still doubtful whether Jadon Sancho can cope with the completely different atmosphere in the German Bundesliga. And he should definitely drop the idea of moving to Dortmund or Leipzig if he wants more gametime.
Perhaps a move to a mid-table Bundesliga club could be ideal for Sancho’s development. For example, SC Freiburg, who are widely recognised for their skill in producing stars and also having a famous youth academy. Most of the current Bundesliga stars stems from the Freiburg youth academy.
