Manchester City are making a mockery of the current transfer market as Pep Guardiola, who has been at the Etihad for not more than 14 months, has now spent €400m+ on his transfer targets over two summers, including more than €200m already this summer.
The likes of Kyle Walker, Benjamin Mendy, Danilo, Bernardo Silva and Ederson, could all be used in the first team next season but Guardiola is nowhere near finished. He is still linked with the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Alexis Sanchez, which is shocking, but one rumour that does not raise as many eyebrows is, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain.
The English youngster has been at the Emirates stadium since 2011, when he joined Arsenal from Southampton but ever since, he has failed to establish himself in the first team under Arsene Wenger, making just 129 appearances, over more than five years. He has also made 27 international appearances for England, making a name for himself as one of the most exciting stars in England.
At just 23, he is desperate for as much game time as possible, and with Arsenal not being able to promise as much, Chamberlain has decided that he wants to play for another club next season, constantly rejecting a new contract at the Emirates.
He was extensively linked with a move to Liverpool while Stoke City have emerged as shocking suitors for the player but Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are still in the race for his signature.
Known for his versatility in the midfield, Oxlade Chamberlain is one of the quickest players around in England. He can play as a winger, as a central midfielder or as a wing-back, as he showed late last season and his discipline and work rate will surely find him a place in even the best clubs in the world.
He was one of the best players for the Gunners in last couple of months last season and for a player as gifted as he is, the price tag of £25m laid on him by Arsenal is just a steal.
Guardiola has now spent insane amounts on his squad and having done so, will want no short comings what so ever, when he walks into the next season. He has most of his first team places decided for the next season, but a versatile player in Ox surely will have a place in the squad at the Etihad.
The Arsenal man can deputise whenever, wherever needed in midfield or in attack and signing him will reduce the burden on Guardiola, if he has to replace any of his first team stars next season due to contingencies or for rest. This may not be the best move for the player but in all fairness, Oxlade Chamberlain might be the final piece of the blue puzzle in Manchester.
