Pep Guardiola endured a tough time in his first season in England but he is now hell bent on making sure that his side is well equipped to not have a similar season as the previous one. The manager has already spent on the likes of Bernardo Silva, Ederson, Kyle Walker, Benjamin Mendy and Danilo, to add to their squad for the next season, which means that City have now spent more than £200m on incoming transfers this summer.
But if you think that is insane, wait till you hear the latest story from the Manchester Evening News. According to the Manchester based news outfit, Manchester City are still in the race to sign French sensational Kylian Mbappe this summer.
Wanted by Real Madrid, the AS Monaco teenager is subject to a £161m bid from the Spanish giants, who are confident of landing him this summer. However, reports from the MEN now claim that Pep Guardiola might have a shot at landing Mbappe this summer, with the lure of regular playing time in the first team.
The 18-year old versatile attacker is a youth product of AS Brondy but only made a name for himself playing for the Monaco reserves a year and a half ago. He was promoted into the first team in 2015 as a 17-year old and has now grown into the first choice attacker for the Stade Louis II outfit.
Having also made four international appearances at just 18, he is destined for greatness in years to come and Guardiola seems to be convinced that he is the right man for the club this summer.
The likes of Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus are expected to lead the attack for City, clogging a first team place for Mbappe. Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling, Kevin de Bruyne and Bernardo Silva are all expected to play on the wing, which does not make it any easy for Mbappe.
However, Guardiola, who is also looking at Alexis Sanchez, is known to give players, chances in the first team, irrespective of their age, and the French star is surely going to get his chances at the Etihad.
He may not be an immediate necessity for Guardiola but with the amount of money he has spent, it is clear that he is aiming for the summit next season and Mbappe is someone who will make the journey a lot easier.
He is expected to cost no less than £160m which will shatter the world record but for a player of his calibre, it is something City should not be too worried to pay. But do you think City need Mbappe at all?
