Jurgen Klopp has been a busy man this summer as he is desperately looking to add as much depth and quality he can to his squad at Anfield for the next season. The manager has added Mohamed Salah and Dominic Solanke to his attack and is expected to turn his focus to the other areas of the squad but one link that refuses to die anytime soon is Max Kruse.
One of the most experienced strikers currently in the Bundesliga, Kruse has now played for six different clubs in two different countries and is still in sensational form at the age of 29. With 14 international appearances for Germany and 189 Bundesliga appearances to his name so far, he has experience unheard of amongst the current crop of Liverpool players at Anfield.
And this has seen a number of rumours do the rounds that Liverpool are interested in the established striker for a move this summer. Reports claim that the Reds are fighting with their local rivals in Everton, to land the 29-year old, for the next season. Both clubs are ready to make a bid of around £13m, which should be enough to land him. So is he an option for Liverpool?
His experience will certainly be a welcome addition to the squad at Anfield but what will be more attractive is his finishing abilities. Even at 29, he showed great composure and intelligence in the previous season, where he picked up 15 goals and seven assists in the Bundesliga.
Capable of playing as an attacking midfielder or also as a winger, Kruse is a genuine target man, who is strong in the air and with his hold up play. He loves to shoot from distance and can create chances with the ball at his feet. He is smart, and usually, takes up dangerous positions in the final third and is the kind of a player Liverpool does not have at the moment.
Brazilian star Roberto Firmino, who is expected to be the first choice next season is more of a false-9 while Daniel Sturridge, the first choice replacements, is more of a play maker who can lead that attack for the side. Divock Origi has not filled Klopp with optimism while Danny Ings and Dominic Solanke will only be on the fringes of the first team.
From the outside, Kruse actually has no place in this attacking lineup, but his versatility is something Klopp will not want to let go and at just £13m, is a sensational addition. He adds a dynamism to the Liverpool attack that they lack at the moment and if they can add Kruse, Liverpool might just be able to end their shopping for the attacking arsenal of the squad.
