Having qualified for the Champions League, Liverpool are looking to add some quality to their first team next season and have been linked with some of the finest stars in world football at the moment. They have added Mohamed Salah to an already exciting attack but if recent reports are to be believed, Jurgen Klopp is not entirely happy with his attacking options.
Latest reports claim that Liverpool are one of a few clubs who are monitoring the situation of Werder Bremen striker Max Kruse for a move this summer. The report reveals that Chelsea are also considering a move for the experienced striker but do Liverpool really need him?
Born and brought up in West Germany, Kruse ended his youth career at Werder Bremen, where he managed to break into the reserves side and then the first team, all in space of a couple of years. He, however, moved to five different clubs in the last decade, before moving back to Bremen last summer from Wolfsburg.
Though his first stint at the Weserstadion was not too successful, the 29-year-old scored 15 goals and picked up seven assists in just 23 Bundesliga appearances last term, showing that he still has what it takes to deliver at the highest level.
Capable of playing as a lone or a secondary striker, the German international, who has 14 caps for the national side, is an old-fashioned striker, who loves to play on the shoulder of the last defender. Strong with his ball retention abilities and sensational with his finishing, Kruse loves to score goals from a distance and is a constant threat to the opposition goal whenever in possession of the ball.
He can dribble past opponents with ease while is also adept at creating chances for his side and his attributes will add a new dimension to Liverpool’s attack if Klopp managed to lure him to Anfield.
The Reds are expected to use Roberto Firmino as the first choice striker with Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi and Danny Ings in that order next season while Dominic Solanke could also be an option. Kruse, who can also play in a more withdrawn role, may not be an upgrade on all those names but is surely more established than each of those names.
However, the names mentioned should be enough for Liverpool to compete next season, especially with other positions in the squad needing more urgent attention currently.
