Liverpool continue to eye more attacking additions this summer despite defence being their major problem last season. The Reds are reportedly eyeing a move for Borussia Dortmund winger Emre Mor with Jurgen Klopp probably aiming to bring more competition on that right-wing position.
The arrival of Mohamed Salah from Serie A side, AS Roma, has turned Liverpool into one of the best-attacking sides in the Premier League for sure, given the tremendous form the Egyptian ended his last season in. And while Klopp’s willingness to go for yet another forward is understandable, it doesn’t seem feasible at all.
Earlier reports have already stated that the Liverpool boss doesn’t want to dispose of Daniel Sturridge this summer and they wouldn’t be able to afford his replacement, which makes this deal all the vaguer. Liverpool were quite self-sufficient even without Salah last season as they scored 78 goals last season and his addition makes their attack perfectly balanced ahead of the Champions League campaign.
The only other reason for Klopp’s willingness to land him could be the player’s potential. However, given his debut season with Dortmund, he has hardly been productive which makes this speculation all the more baseless. The 19-year-old does possess some real pace and has a handful of trickeries in his bag, but is far from a finished product, and he would hardly get into Liverpool’s starting eleven.
Liverpool would reportedly face a stiff competition from Turkish giants Fenerbahce who want him on loan, La Liga side Celta de Vigo and Real Sociedad, and from Southampton back home.
Mor could be crucial against Premier League sides like Burnley, West Bromwich Albion and more, who like to sit deep for most of the match, and attack on the counter. However, the Turkish international is at the prime of his career and a bench spot should hardly be an option.
An academy product of Danish side Brönshöj Boldklub, Mor came up through the ranks of Lyngby BK before he was sold to FC Nordsjaelland in 2015. He broke into their first team in no time and even managed to play 13 games in the Superligaen before Dortmund realised his talent the next season. He has managed a goal and three assists in 19 Bundesliga appearances last season and Dortmund are not expected to cash in on the talent so fast.
The German side is known to bring up some of the best talents in world football and their investment of time and money on Mor reflects he is one in the making.
