According to latest reports, Bayern Munich star forward Thomas Muller is attracting interests from English giants Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool along with Italian champions Juventus. Although Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is constantly claiming their German world cup star is not available on the market, it largely depends on the player itself, whether or not is he interested in moving abroad.
The signing of Corentin Tolisso from Lyon was initially believed to be the main summer signing for FC Bayern. However, the German champions have made yet another coup last week, when they announced the loan signing of Real Madrid forward James Rodriguez with an option to buy. Both moves are certain to strengthen the Bayern Munich squad, thus decreasing the chance of Thomas Muller of being a first choice starter in the team.
Despite the retirements of Philip Lahm and Xabi Alonso, Bayern have successfully managed to make their team even stronger, with their new signings. The midfield is quite crowded at the moment, with Sebastian Rudy, Arturo Vidal, Thiago Alcantara, Corentin Tolisso and Renato Sanches, all fighting for the three available spots.
While the offensive positions are also deeply occupied. Robert Lewandowski has permanently claimed the lone striker position while either of Rodriguez or Thiago is expected to start from the attacking midfield position, further reducing the chance of him making the starting lineup. On the flanks, players like Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery are still not showing any signs of decline and are more natural wingers than the German International.
So in truth, it does make sense for Thomas Muller to seek a new club rather than just competing against this plethora of world class talents. Also with the world cup just around the corner, Muller will be looking to find his footing before the competition rolls off in Russia next year.
As for the three Premier League clubs interested in signing the attacker, it can make a huge difference to their squad. Let’s figure out why Muller will be a great signing for each of these three clubs in Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.
For Arsenal, it seems a lot less likely that Muller will join, as the Gunners are set to miss Champions League football after a long time. Arsenal have also signed Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon, just a few weeks ago. However, Arsene Wenger’s gameplay revolves a lot around positioning sense and smart movements, and for that very reason, Muller is tremendously suitable to the conditions. With the services of players like Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, Muller can thrive at Arsenal.
Unlike Arsenal, Liverpool are making a comeback to the Champions League this season. The Merseyside club, coached by Jurgen Klopp is in need of a striker at the moment, with Daniel Sturridge and Divock not proving to the ideal solution upfront. The Reds were after Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but the Gabonese is set to stay another season in the Bundesliga.
Muller is the complete opposite of Aubameyang. Instead of pace, he will use his positional awareness and smart movements, which is actually quite ideal for someone like Jurgen Klopp. Liverpool are a counter attacking team, and Muller is the perfect counter attacking player. The Reds do have cash left in their tank, and it would be huge for the Scousers if they can manage to land on Thomas Muller.
So what does the future hold for Thomas Muller at Bayern? Truth be told, we don’t know yet. However, it might just be the perfect time for the Premier League clubs to swoop one of Germany’s finest attackers in the modern day football.
