Leeds United almost made it into the Championship playoffs in the last term but finally were unable to make it into the top six due to a late collapse. The Whites, however, are looking to make another attempt to get into the top six of the Championship League table by rebuilding their side with new signings in the summer transfer window.
The Elland Road club have already let go of quite a few of their players from the last season, whose performances were far from satisfactory and have brought in new ones in order to strengthen their squad and revamp it. They are now eyeing a good striker to add him to their roster for the new season.
Reportedly, the new man in charge at the Elland Road club, Thomas Christiansen, being an ex-Spanish international himself, is eyeing his compatriot striker Alvaro Negredo to be brought into the side for the next season. The 31-year-old marksman spent the last season on loan at Middlesbrough before moving back to his current club Valencia.
Negredo, who is an ex-Manchester City striker, winning both the Premier League and the Football League Cup in the 2013/14 season with the Citizens, made a fair contribution to Middlesbrough having scored 10 goals for them. However, it was not enough to save their season, as they slipped down to the second tier with the Spaniard moving back to Valencia at the end of his loan term.
However, he is currently been treated as surplus to requirements at the Spanish club and is poised to make a move back to English football in the summer. Reportedly, a number of clubs are ready to make a bid for the player for the next season, including Leeds United, who are ready to go all in for the so called ambitious move.
The Elland Road club already have a good striker in the form of Chris Wood at their disposal and might look forward to pairing him with Negredo in order to make their attack one of the sharpest and strongest in the Championship in the next season.
The Whites’ new coach Thomas Christiansen must be more than happy to see the two top strikers playing together that might be lead them into the Championship playoffs, which they missed by a whisker in the last term and can well be the doorway to get back into the Premier League after a long gap of 14 years.
