Championship outfit Leeds United have been pretty active this summer in their recruitments under the stewardship of their new manager in the shape of Thomas Christiansen. The Whites came very close to earning a playoff spot in the previous campaign but owing to their sporadic run of form in the business end, they fell out of contention and could eventually manoeuvre merely a seventh-place finish in the league table.
However, it was good to see Garry Monk marshalling the West Yorkshire based club in a decent manner and it goes without saying that Christiansen must be keen to utilize the pedestal created by Monk last season in order to maraud towards the promise land of the Premier League. In one of the latest reports, it has been stated that Leeds United are very interested in luring Valencia striker Alvaro Negredo this summer to sharpen their attacking arsenal.
Negredo spent his previous season on loan with Middlesbrough and smashed nine goals and registered four assists in 36 appearances for the Smoggies. Despite his decent spell, he failed to take them to the rendezvous point, and considering that he apparently isn’t in Marcelino Garcia Toral’s plans, he is seemingly likely to vouch for an outlet in order to prise himself out of Mestalla Stadium.
Apart from Leeds United, Swansea City and Besiktas have also put him on their radar which implies that there is no dearth of his admirers.
The 31-year-old is a player with truckloads of experience under his belt, who possesses a very clinical finishing technique and has a commanding presence in the air. He is sharp, mobile and creates a lot of nuisance for the oppositions’ defenders inside the box with his movements and pace.
Also known as ‘The Beast’ for the physicality he operates with, he is a perfect poacher inside the box and with two years left on his contract with the Bats, he could be signed for just around £6million to £7million.
The Peacocks already have a prolific goal getter in Chris Wood, but the Spanish international’s incoming will automatically uplift the quality of their squad and there with undoubtedly be a competition between them with respect to bagging a place in the starting line-up. Though his wages might be an issue, Leeds United’s return to the Premier League is long overdue one and if they eventually make him sign above the dotted line, they would be doing themselves a massive favour for the upcoming campaign.
