Having missed the playoff spot by a whisker, Leeds United have been trying to accumulate a squad capable of fighting the promotion battle next season. The departure of Garry Monk came as a shock but after the few initial hiccups, the Whites are now looking to achieve new heights in the upcoming season under their new manager Thomas Christiansen.
In a major development, Charlie Taylor left the club to join Burnley leaving the club short in defence. The talented left-back rejected a new contract and has vowed to fight for the Clarets in the Premier League.
To fill his void, Christiansen is reportedly eyeing a deal for Manchester United youngster Cameron Borthwick-Jackson. The youngster has failed to make it to the top level and might be open for a move to further develop his skills.
Yes, it came to us as a surprise for us as well given how we all know about the Leeds United and Manchester United rivalry.
However, the 20-year-old had a non-productive stint with Wolves last season and appeared in nine matches in all competitions. Infact, Jose Mourinho was very disappointed with the way the player was used at the Molineux Stadium and decided to bring back the player from his loan spell.
But he failed to make a single appearance for the Red Devils in the Premier League. He was introduced to the senior set up by former manager Louis Van Gaal. Luke Shaw had been struggling with injuries so the veteran Dutchman opted to start him and the youngster embraced the opportunity with both hands.
The English teenager went on to represent the Red Devils fourteen times including a brief appearance in the Champions League. But this term, he has fallen down the pecking order as Mourinho has mostly preferred Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind on the left side of the defence.
He was one of the most highly rated youngsters emerging from the Manchester United academy but his career hasn’t yet shaped the way people had widely expected it to.
His stint with the Wolves proved to be a disaster but the player showed flashes of brilliance which must have been noticed by Leeds United. He doesn’t seem to be in Mourinho’s plans so if the right offer comes, the gaffer might offload the player who has a contract till 2020.
Leeds currently have Gaetano Berardi who can play as a left-back despite predominantly being a right back. So Christiansen has a plethora of options at his disposal and the arrival of the Manchester United youngster could be very exciting both for the club and the player.
