Newly relegated side Hull City have finally stepped up in their transfer activities it seems as reports claim that the Tigers are now weighing up a bid for Championship side Cardiff City striker Kenneth Zohore. The Danish Under-21 international has been a hot prospect since his late heroics for the Blue Birds last season and numerous sides are keeping tabs on his development.
Cardiff have bound the starlet to the club till 2020 by late contract extension three months back in April, which has been reason enough for many sides to back off in his pursuit. However, Hull City’s latest sale of star defender Harry Maguire to former Premier League Champions Leicester for £17m has brought them funds to get in the exciting prospect ahead of everyone.
The Tigers suffered a huge blow in their defeat to Sunderland in the closing weeks of last season, following which they couldn’t really recover. It led to their manager Marco Silva leaving them to take up the job at Vicarage Road with the Tigers bringing in Leonid Slutsky at the helm. The Russian has a mammoth task at hand given all the big club loanees returning, following the season end and Zohore could be Tigers’ first major signing this summer.
Zohore has been a second-half performer for Cardiff last season, where he suddenly came to life following Christmas and scored 12 goals in 23 appearances. He has continued his prolific display since then as he got two on target in Poland’s Under-21 European Championship.
Cardiff are reluctant to let the youngster go for obvious reasons and with his contract renewed only three months ago, he is definitely going to cost much. However, Neil Warnock hasn’t ruled out any such possibilities if the proper offer comes. Speaking to the media, he expressed, “If I’m to have any chance next season, he won’t be going anywhere. You can never say never – if someone came in with £20m you can’t say no, I’d even sell Sol Bamba for that who has been just as important.”
Relegated sides are given parachute amounts to ease their losses and Hull City would expect to dispose of few more players before they start their buying. Following Maguire and Curtis Davies, which fetched them £17.5 million, there are numerous names like Andy Robertson, Sam Clucas and Kamil Grosicki linked with a move away from the KCOM Stadium this summer.
Although Slutsky still has Abel Hernandez, who is approaching the last year of his contract, alongside Adama Diomande and Will Keane, the Tigers would welcome the quality upgrade that Zohore could essentially bring.
