Hull City are looking forward to starting a new season in the Championship, shrugging off the disappointment of the last term, which saw them getting relegated from the top tier. This term, however, the Tigers are ready for the challenges of a long season of Championship football and make their way back into the Premier League in the next season.
Hull City are looking to make quite a few signings in the transfer market this summer, with the prospect of building a strong enough team to challenge the opponents in the Championship. However, they are already preparing for life without their most reliable player at the heart of their defence, with Harry Maguire being signed by Premier League club Leicester City in the summer transfer window.
The Tigers are reportedly looking forward to making amends for the loss of undoubtedly their best defender and are looking no further than the Merseyside club Everton to bring in their out of favour centre-back Matthew Pennington in the next season to strengthen their backline. The defender has been one of the top centre backs, however, has been underused by his current club, and might look to make a move out of Goodison Park.
The 22-year-old has been used only on three occasions by the Toffees in the last season, which has reportedly frustrated the player and he is eyeing a move out of the club in the next term. Hull, amongst a number of clubs, have been quite interested in bagging the player in the summer, in order to fill their void, which has been created by the departure of Harry Maguire from the heart of their defence for the new season.
The Everton defender has a towering presence in the heart of the defence and has been termed as one of the future stars in English football. He has great ball controlling capacity, along with the ability to make clearances from the most critical of situations. Pennington is also known for his ability to keep hold of the ball for a significant amount of time and send long balls into the opposition half. He also has a thumping header to accompany his physical ability, which can send the ball past the goalkeeper to find the back of the net.
The Englishman’s strong presence in the heart of the defence can be crucial for the Tigers. His experience to have played for Tranmere Rovers, Walsall and Coventry can also come in handy for the player if he joins Hull in the summer.
