Everton’s Ronald Koeman seems desperate to make sure that they have enough options in their squad for the challenges next season but losing the top goal scorer can do that to you. The Merseyside outfit had to let Romelu Lukaku leave this summer and Koeman has added the likes of Sandro Ramirez and Davy Klaassen to his first team, to try and replace the Belgian.
But neither of those names has a single appearance in the Premier League and the manager will know that it could easily blow up in his face next season. So it does not come as a surprise that he is still looking to add another attacker to his squad, especially having failed to tie Ross Barkley down to a new contract.
The English international is expected to quit the club before the start of the next season and this has seen Koeman scout for in-form Swansea City star Gylfi Sigurdsson for a move this summer.
Everton have already had a couple of bids of around £40m and £45m rejected by the Welsh outfit but reports claim that Koeman is ready to make a £50m bid, which could be enough to land the 27-year old. But is Sigurdsson the right man for Everton?
With nine goals and 13 assists in the Premier League last season, the Iceland international was one of the most productive attackers in England last season. He moved to Swansea from Tottenham back in 2014 and has ever since, cemented a place in the first team, making 106 top flight appearances for the Swans.
Capable of playing on the wings as well, Sigurdsson is an attacking midfielder, who enjoyed his most productive season in the previous campaign. At 27, he is in his prime as a footballer and might have a better season in the upcoming one, and could be a useful addition to the squad at the Goodison Park.
Though not strong in the air, Sigurdsson is a decent outlet in attack as he constantly looks to create chances. He is not tailor made for the Premier League but showed that he is capable of putting in strong performances week in and week out, in one of the toughest leagues in the world.
However, the fact that just five of his 13 assists in the PL last season came from open play shows that he is not the creator in chief Everton need at the moment. They are ready to spend £50m on a player who will turn 28 in a couple of months so Koeman is better advised to look elsewhere for a more exciting and younger option than the Iceland star, for his revolution next season.
