According to reports, Merseyside club Everton faces a tough challenge from Premier League giants Manchester United in the race to sign Bolton Wanderers wonder kid Jake Turner. The 18-year-old shot stopper has been hugely impressive at England’s youth level with the footballing system touting him to be a huge talent in the next few years.
And the Toffees, who have seen a surge in young talents coming up through their ranks in the past few years are keen on bringing the future star to Goodison Park. Since coming to the helm last summer. Ronald Koeman has given chance to a number of youngsters and Turner could be seen starting in the league within no time.
Everton are definitely the next big power in England with the huge number of talents they have got at their disposal. Following a decent seventh place finish in the Premier league last season, which now sees them playing in the Europa League qualifying round, the Toffees have brought in players aggressively.
Koeman has the full support of the board and the Dutch gaffer looks determined to break into the top four next season. They have already brought in some of the hottest young European prospects like Davy Klaassen, Sandro Ramirez, Michael Keane, Jordan Pickford and the huge sale of Romelu Lukaku even fetched them Wayne Rooney in return.
The likes of Everton and Tottenham now possess a different lure following their last few successful seasons. Players are seen choosing them over the top sides like Arsenal, Manchester City, United or Chelsea. However, it might not work for Turner here as the just promoted from League One side, Bolton Wanderers, and in dire need of money that United have plenty.
To top that, Everton’s recent buy of England Under-21 international Jordan Pickford leaves little space for Turner to fit in the squad. Experienced gloves like Maarten Stekelenburg and Joel Robles are still present in their camp, which means even EFL Cup and initial FA Cup games aren’t a guarantee for Turner at Goodison Park.
United, on the other hand, are mulling over the decision of David De Gea joining Real Madrid. While Jose Mourinho has reiterated that the Spaniard isn’t leaving United this summer, we all feel it is just a matter of time before that move happens.
The Wilmslow-born player is yet to break into the first team of Bolton. He has been capped twice for England’s Under-18 side since making debut in 2016. And although he is far from a finished product, his brilliant positioning, reflexes and handling have caught the attention of many.
