Tottenham Hotspur winger Moussa Sissoko’s future in the Premier League seems as uncertain as it was last summer when he was hovering over England on a helicopter choosing his next destination. The Frenchman chose the North London side in a last-minute decision and has proven to be a huge failure since then. Reports of the Lilywhites not seeing him in their plans next season is ripe with numerous others willing to land him now.
And according to reports, Everton have reignited their interest in the Frenchman yet again. The Toffees have been at an all new level this transfer market getting in some of the most exciting prospects from across Europe. With the likes of Wayne Rooney, Davy Klaassen and Sandro Ramirez all starting for them up front, Ronald Koeman has little worry about scoring.
However, the Dutch boss still sees Yannick Bolasie out with an injury, who is not expected to return before the second half of the season. The other option of Aaron Lennon looks highly debated as following his mental breakdown, his performance would need to be carefully gauged before he is tried at the top level.
Sissoko could be a decent bench option for Koeman on the right flank, who though out of form currently, has shown his potential before. One could argue Mauricio Pochettino handing him little time to prove his worth, but his prior experience in top-flight English football means he should get going from the start.
The Argentine boss had handed him twenty-five league appearances, out of which only eight were starts. Throughout the season, Sissoko could finish only one full game registering two assists and zero goals in them. It is safe to say that the former Southampton boss has little faith in him now, and the club’s decision to sell him off even if that means taking a hit financially, is understandable.
If reports are to be believed, Spurs are willing to take the £20 million for him offered by West Bromwich Albion, after getting him for a whopping £30 million from Newcastle United last summer. Everton are willing to have him on a loan-to-buy basis, which isn’t quite agreeable for Spurs.
Everton have already spent a lot this summer and another £20 million for someone, who has been more of a failure in the league for the past two seasons, is a risky move. However, Sissoko’s versatility across the offensive and the defensive third makes him an interesting option too. The towering forward could offer some advantage from aerial duels and outmuscling opponents, although his end product remains the concern.
