Everton seem to be having an unending spending spree this summer, as the Toffees had already signed a number of players, six to be precise, in the form of Davy Klaassen from Ajax, Jordan Pickford from Sunderland, Michael Keane from Burnley, Wayne Rooney from Manchester United, Sandro Ramirez from Malaga and Henry Onyekuru from Eupen.
The Toffees are not showing any signs of slowing down in the transfer market and are looking to bring in a number of new players into the team, with Southampton right back Cuco Martina being the seventh of the lot. The defender from the South Coast club is the latest addition to the roster for the Merseyside club, who are determined to make amends for their mistakes in the next season and seal a much-coveted place in the top four on the League table.
Everton faced a number of challenges to stabilise their backline in the last season, with their first choice right back Seamus Coleman being out with an injury to miss a major chunk of the season. The player has been one of the most dependable defenders for his team in the last few seasons, and he was missed heavily by Ronald Koeman, the current man in charge at Goodison Park, who had to use the inexperienced Mason Holgate in order to hold his fort against the opposition.
Cuco Martina comes in as a potential cover for the injured right-back Coleman, who is still not sure to be a part of the starting line-up in the new season. Though young English defender Holgate was good in the last part of the season, it is quite unlikely that he will be playing as the main man in the right back position throughout the season.
Martina has a great relationship with the wily Dutchman, Koeman, who was the one behind his transfer to the South Coast club, where he has been playing a pivotal role to stabilise the defence. He played 24 matches in the Premier League for the club and is going to be a very important addition to the roster for the Toffees, given his young age and energetic approach towards the game.
Everton finished the last season in the seventh position on the League table, despite the fact that they had quite a few good games in the ending stages of the season. However, the Dutch mastermind looks determined to make this season a better one, with a view to finishing in the top four.
