While seeing numerous arrivals at the club is definitely the most soothing feeling for the fans, the manager remains the most under pressure during this time of the year. While he would have his desired options at his disposal, them not working out could spell the end of his career.
Everton boss Ronald Koeman is surely the man in such a situation now. The Dutch manager has been on a spending spree since the season ended and with the billionaire owner backing him up, he has brought in some of the most exciting talents from across Europe at Goodison Park. The Toffees have already spent around £90 million this summer.
However, this kind of huge investment generally come with the burden of instant success, which has been the prime strategy for top sides like Manchester United and Manchester City. Koeman witnessing the midseason slump again that he experienced last season would surely see grave consequences this time, and given that they face away trips to Manchester City and Chelsea in the first month itself has strong chances of that happening.
Koeman’s aggressive preparations are, however, well founded given the sides Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho are expected to field. Everton have a huge chance of breaking into the top four next season, given the squad, they have now, and if reports are to believed, they have now completed the signing of Queens Park Rangers winger Josh Bowler.
The 18-year-old, who is apparently destined for greatness, has signed a three-year contract joining the already existing highly-rated youngsters at Goodison Park, like Tom Davies, Ademola Lookman, Mason Holgate, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and more. This move essentially indicates that Koeman doesn’t want to rely solely on his superstars next season and would demand same intensity from the bench when they would need to be called into action.
A right-winger by nature, Bowler can also play on the left wing and possesses tremendous speed from wide areas. He is expected to start his top-flight campaign from Everton’s Under 23 squad, where they have already brought in other exciting players like Nathangelo Markelo, Anton Donkor and Boris Mathis.
The teen sensation was understandably excited about the move. Speaking to the media, he said, “I’m really excited to join Everton – it’s a fantastic opportunity for me… I’m a direct player, I feel like I can bring excitement in the final third and this is the perfect place for me to continue my education and development.”
