Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is reportedly willing to make a move for Bayern Munich’s big failure Renato Sanches, who is expected to leave Allianz Arena this summer on the back of his underwhelming displays last season. The Portuguese youngster had arrived at Munich on the back of huge hype and has completely failed to live up to the expectations.
And now with the Bundesliga giants bringing in James Rodriguez from Real Madrid on loan for the next two years as Xabi Alonso announced his retirement from the game, Sanches’ chances of flourishing for them has diminished.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti has made it clear that he wouldn’t be a part of his grand plans next season. Speaking to media, Ancelotti said: “At this time, he’s training with us. We have to make a decision. A move could be a possibility but there is also a chance he could stay with us for the season.”
Taking a leaf from their move for Rodriguez, the Blues are reportedly eyeing a loan move for Sanches for the next season. Despite seeming out of touch last season, his qualities are undeniable as one of the most potential midfielders in Europe. Bayern had to even shell out a whopping £30 million to land him ahead of Premier League giants Manchester United last summer.
Though Sanches has numerous top suitors including Manchester United and AC Milan, Antonio Conte believes he could snap him up this summer. The London club has already brought Tiemoue Bakayoko in the midfield this summer to play alongside N’Golo Kante and Cesc Fabregas as Nemanja Matic nears an exit from Stamford Bridge, and Sanches will only increase their standard.
The Lisbon-born player was one of the hottest prospects in the summer of 2016 after a phenomenal season with Liga NOS giants Benfica and a Euro 2016 winning campaign. The 19-year-old even won the Golden Boy award for the year and was voted the best young player in the Euros.
He was expected to play a huge and long-serving role with Bayern following that. However, he could manage only six starts last season among the 25 appearances that Ancelotti decided to hand him in all competitions. Unfortunately, neither could he score nor assist in all the chances given to him. And just how much effective he will be in England is also a matter of concern for Chelsea.
Despite having a slow start, Chelsea have spent around £130m already this summer, getting in Alvaro Morata and Antonio Rudiger other than Bakayoko.
