Antonio Conte has been a busy manager this summer as he wants to make sure that his squad at the Stamford Bridge has the right balance to face the challenges that lie ahead next season. Having allowed Diego Costa to leave, Conte has spent on the likes of Alvaro Morata, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Antonio Rudiger for the next season.
But it does not look like he is done adding quality to his lineup and is now looking at a shocking prospect in Tom Davies from Everton. According to English news outfit Sun, Chelsea are now pondering over a move for the English midfielder before the start of the next season.
Born and brought up in Liverpool, Davies spent three years at the Tranmere Academy before joining the Toffees as a kid in 2009. He rose through the ranks at the club, and made it into the first team under Roberto Martinez in 2015 but has only come to the fore with some excellent performances last season under Ronald Koeman.
A central midfielder, known for his contributions in both halves of the field, the 19-year old has represented the national side in each of the age groups till date and is not too far away from a call up to the senior side.
At just 19, he has three assists and two goals in 26 Premier League appearances in his career and is slowly establishing himself as a potential star in England. Injuries to key players saw him start regularly late last season, and he made 18 starts in the league in total, which is commendable for a player his age.
Known for his creativity and grit in defensive situations, Davies is still too young to face the physical battles in the league but is more than comfortable in holding on to the ball and creating chances for his side. His concentration levels are admirable and for a player his age, he seems to be regularly ahead of the opponents, even in dangerous moves.
He is expected to be in the plans of the Dutch manager at the Goodison Park next season but is not expected to be the first choice. So a chance to play for a club in the Champions League might be tempting enough for him to shift to the capital city.
Chelsea are expected to use an all-French midfield in N’Golo Kante and Tiemoue Bakayoko while Cesc Fabregas could act as the backup. Nemanja Matic, the first choice for Conte last season, is expected to quit the club this summer, which will give Davies a chance to showcase his talents but there is every chance that the Everton teenager might turn into just another player travelling on loan stints all over Europe.
So it will a tough decision to make for the player but do you think Davies is actually an option for Chelsea?
