Celtic, under the tutelage of Brendan Rodgers, were absolutely spectacular the last term as they went on to clinch the League Cup, Scottish Cup as well as the Scottish Premiership title to erect a strong footing for themselves in the domestic competitions. The fact that they went on to win the Scottish top division title without losing a game is a reminder of how prolific they were and without any shadow of a doubt, they seemingly appeared to be miles ahead of their rivals like Aberdeen and Rangers.
However, having carved a fine pedestal for themselves, it would be of paramount importance for them to continue the momentum and in order to do the same, Rodgers would have to keep his resources intact and look to hand contract extensions to the men who excelled last season as a reward for their outcomes.
Also, with the knack to ink a better name for themselves in the Champions League, the former Liverpool boss would have to satisfy someone like Stuart Armstrong to stay at the Celtic Park.
If the latest reports are to be believed, the Hoops are plotting a deal to extend Armstrong’s contract and are ready to negotiate with him. The 25-year-old accumulated 31 Scottish Premiership appearances to his name during the 2016-17 season, and banged 15 goals for his employers.
As a result, the Scot has been handed a call to the Scottish national side and no wonder why the Celts are looking forward to keep him in their books. Armstrong is yet to sign a new deal with the current one expiring at the end of the coming season, Rodgers needs to tie him up before the vultures start to hover over the midfielder in order to lure him away from the Glasgow based outfit.
The highly-rated Scottish star is a complete package and offers reliability, creativity, and composure at the middle of the part, apart from his evident inclination to bang goals time and again. He contributes defensively as well and knits the side in a very shrewd manner.
The former Dundee United man has truckloads of experience under his belt and if he extends his stay with the Bhoys, it would be a beneficial deal for both the parties involved. While Celtic would offer him Champions League football and pay hike, Armstrong would continue to render his services which has been so very beneficial to the club since 2015.
