The summer transfer window is going on in full swing with all the clubs monitoring their targets and taking marauding steps to bring the ones, who they feel, would enhance their quality and help them in meeting their needs for the upcoming season.
Turkish Lig outfit, Besiktas haven’t begged to differ, as under the tutelage of Senol Gunes, the Black Eagles have made a few decent signings including the blockbuster acquisition of Pepe from Real Madrid. Apparently, the reigning Turkish top division champions are in no mood to stop.
If one of the latest reports are to be believed, Besiktas are plotting a move to lure Celtic’s defender, Erik Sviatchenko to Vodafone Park on loan this summer. The interest from Gunes’ outfit makes complete sense as they are vouching for a partner to be pencilled alongside Pepe, with Sviatchenko being one of their prime targets.
The centre-back was a subject of interest for Leicester City during the January transfer window, which of course didn’t materialize. But owing to the existing scenario, an exit seems to be on the cards for him this time around, for his career is seemingly likely to stagnate if he isn’t given the requisite opportunities.
Sviatchenko carved a fine name for himself once he cemented his stature with the Danish outfit, FC Midtjylland and inked his name in the good books of the football fraternity. In January 2016, the Celts added him to their arsenal by dishing out £1.5million and went on to make 62 appearances for them.
However, he has fallen out of favour in recent months owing to the inclination of Brendan Rodgers towards using Dedryck Boyata and Jozo Simunovic at the heart of his side’s defence. Further, considering Rodgers’ knack to give the young guns a platform to thrive, Kristoffer Ajer is also an appealing option for the former Liverpool boss.
At this stroke of hour, it would make sense if the Scottish giants ship him out on loan to a club where he would be able to accumulate some much needed game time under his belt. Besiktas would be a new endeavour for the 25-year-old and will also have Champions League football on offer, and that should tempt him.
Sviatchenko is tied with the Celts until the summer of 2020, so it would also be an excellent opportunity for Rodgers to keep a close eye on his progress elsewhere and to decipher if he can be of any help to the club after a season. A loan deal seems to be a win-win situation for all the parties involved and might just prevent the Denmark international from fading away.
