Brighton & Hove Albion made their sixth summer signing with them loaning Isaiah Brown from Premier League Champions Chelsea.
The 20-year-old has had quite the day penning a new four-year-deal at Chelsea before joining The Albion.
Brown began his career at the youth academy of 2015/16 Premier League Champions, Leicester, in 2011. This was not a long stint at the Leicester Academy as that same year he joined West Bromwich Albion’s Academy. The Englishman was at West Brom till 2013 when he first appeared on the bench for The Baggies against Chelsea in March but was an unused substitute.
He made his West Brom debut against Wigan on the 4th May 2013 and it made him the second-youngest player to feature in the Premier League at the age of 16 years and 117 days old.
Brown then moved to Chelsea in the summer of 2013. In his four years so far at the club, the 20-year-old has made one appearance which came in May 2015 when he came off the bench in their Premier League game against his former club West Brom.
The striker was then loaned out for the 2015/16 season to Dutch side Vitesse where he made 22 appearances, scoring just the one goal.
The 2016/17 season then saw Brown go out on loan to Championship side Rotherham United, where he made 20 appearances and netted three times.
Then in January 2017, he joined Championship high flyers, Huddersfield Town where he made 15 appearances and scored four goals. Although he only scored four goals, he was a handful for many Championship sides with his intelligent runs and pace to get in behind the defence.
The 20-year-old has also been capped for England at U16, U17, U19 and U20 level, but has yet to feature for the England U21’s.
Brighton have been looking to bring in a pacey striker so they are not so reliant on Sam Baldock who has had injury problems last season and over this year’s pre-season campaign so far.
This has meant that for part of last season, Brighton had to play both their target men Glenn Murray and Tomer Hemed up front and between them, they have a lack of pace, so they are not able to run around and chase the defence for 90 minutes like Baldock does.
The signing of Brown is perfect for Brighton as he possesses a lot of pace and will chase down the defender and cause problems for them like Baldock does. The 20-year-old loanee also has a good eye for goal and I think he could well thrive under the service that the Brighton wingers provide to the strikers.
