Brighton & Hove Albion are in dire need of a forward to provide some depth in the squad and manager Chris Hughton has been hunting for a new striker for his newly promoted side.
Hughton has been pretty busy reshaping his squad but reinforcements in the forward department have been one of his main concerns. According to reports, Brighton are considering a swoop for Everton’s Oumar Niasse.
The Senegalese international has lost his place under Everton gaffer Ronald Koeman and has been told to search for an alternative club. He arrived at the Goodison Park when Roberto Martinez was at the helm of the club.
He has featured in a mere seven games for the Toffees so far and hasn’t played a single game under Koeman. He was shipped out on loan to Hull City for the second half of the season.
He did reasonably well for the Tigers as he netted four times in 17 appearances for them although Hull couldn’t hold themselves up in the Premier League as they dropped to the Championship after a miserable outing in the Premier League last season.
Koeman is not a fan of the forward who cost the club a whopping £13.5m. Known for his pace and attacking instincts, Niasse’s career hasn’t shaped the way it should have.
Everton brought in Sandro Ramirez and Wayne Rooney who made a comeback to his boyhood club after a gap of 13 years so it would be quite difficult for him to make enough room for himself in the starting lineup.
Brighton have very limited options in the forward department as they currently have only three fit centre forwards and neither of them has any Premier League experience under their belt.
Glenn Murray is 33 while Sam Baldock is also approaching his thirties. So it would be imminent for the gaffer to inject a fleet footed player into the side and Niasse could be just what the doctor ordered for the squad.
Brighton would be playing in the Premier League for the first time in their history so Hughton would try to make the upcoming season a special one. The dearth of experienced players could play spoilsport for them and Niasse could extend a helping hand to the gaffer.
Considering his experience in the Premier League, he could be an exciting signing for the Seagulls. Everton would like to recoup at least £10m for the 27-year-old and Hughton shouldn’t have any problem spending that much.
