Brighton & Hove Albion are close to making their fifth signing of the transfer window, with Mathias Normann on the verge of joining The Seagulls.
The Argus put out an article this morning saying “Albion close in on Norwegian Prospect”. Normann began his career at Lofoten and then broke into their senior team in 2012 at the age of 16, where he made five appearances scoring the one goal. The Norwegian then moved to Bodø/Glimt in 2013, where he has made 43 appearances, scoring three goals.
Normann has also had a loan spell at Alta who are in the 2.Divisjon, which is the Norwegian equivalent of the Championship. In his spell at the club, he made 16 appearances and scored two goals. The midfielder has also had appearances for both the Norway U17’s and U18’s.
When Normann signs for The Seagulls, he will go straight into Brighton’s U23’s. This is set to be the second signing of the summer for Brighton’s U23’s with Josh Kerr being signed on a free transfer for The Albion from Celtic. The transfer fee is set to be a six figure but this seems to be his value, as in March of this year a Norwegian paper VG reported in an article that Bodø/Glimt refused to sell Normann to Vålerenga, who it was believed had bid five to 6 million kroner, which is just shy of 600,000 pounds.
VG a Norwegian newspaper reported that the Normann almost gave up football after the bid from Vålerenga was rejected and thought about going back into education to learn to become an electrician. It is also reported by VG that Normann has wanted to leave since this bid from Vålerenga was rejected.
From what I have read, the Norwegian is a central midfielder, who can get forward and find the net and this is what Brighton are looking for at the moment, although Normann when he signs, will join the development squad. The Norwegian seems to be a bright prospect for the future.
Also, the 21-year-old seems to possess a lot of pace for a central midfielder and although he is five foot 10 inches tall, he seems to be in good in the air. Normann looks to be a great investment in Brighton’s youth system and will be one to watch out for in the future.
Normann, when he signs, will become The Seagulls fifth addition to their ranks with Brighton having already signed Pascal Groß, Josh Kerr, Matthew Ryan and Markus Suttner.
The Albion have made a terrific start to their transfer business within the first few weeks of the window opening. If they continue to recruit this well, they will have a strong and competitive squad heading into their opening Premier League game against Manchester City at The AMEX on the 12th August. Brighton are continuing to scan Europe in order to recruit further players.
