Riyad Mahrez has been the subject of interest from AS Roma as the Italian club have reportedly launched a bid of £29m which was rejected by Leicester City.
The Algerian winger has handed in a transfer request and is believed to be looking to strike a deal with the club which will allow him to leave the King Power Stadium if a lucrative offer arrives.
Mahrez has an avid admirer in Arsene Wenger who has tried to bring the player to the Emirates. Wenger was even ready to invest in the player but Leicester’s £50m price tag on the player forced him to back off.
The 26-year-old has even been linked with Barcelona but the Catalans haven’t approached formally so a move to Spain is very unlikely as of now. Mahrez’s future is currently in turmoil but the player has started pre-season training with his club.
If he prefers to move, here is the list of three clubs which are amongst the ideal destinations for him,
Arsenal
The North London club was leading the chase to land the winger. The 26-year-old has gone frustrated over his uncertain future and has asked his agent to arrange a move for him.
The Gunners were ready to pay £35m and even agreed to terms with the player. Mahrez was supposed to put pen to paper on a four-year deal but Foxes’s intervened as the defending Premier League champions have been demanding in the region of £50m for the player.
Arsenal have shifted their focus to Monaco’s Thomas Lemar but the French club has refused to lower their demand of £80m. The North Londoners had a number of bids rejected for the player and if the French club refuses to budge, Wenger might revive his interest in Mahrez again.
AS Roma
The Italian side have already expressed their interest by offering a huge sum for the player. Mahrez won the PFA player of the year award in 2016 but has failed to replicate his performance since.
Leicester were struggling throughout the entire first half of the season but some late revival helped them to finish in a pretty decent position. Despite Mahrez’s off form, he remains a hot prospect in the transfer market and if Arsenal don’t show their interest he might opt for a move to Italy.
Barcelona
A dream move for the 26-year-old. The Catalans have never shown that urgency to bring the player but the player’s first preference has been the Catalan club.
Mahrez hopes to don the jersey at least once in his career and who knows the Spanish giants might come with an offer for the player.
