The prospect of losing Neymar could be a boon in disguise for Barcelona. Neymar could be the most expensive player of all time as Paris Saint Germain are planning a major coup to bring the superstar to the French capital.
If reports are to be believed, Barcelona already have their contingency plan in place to replace Neymar and it is none other than Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe. The sensational Frenchman has been the most talked about player in the transfer market.
Arsenal and Real Madrid have been chasing the 18-year-old teenager for a long time but Monaco’s strong stand on the player has left them in a spot of bother. Now it is understood Madrid’s arch-rivals Barcelona have also stepped up their interest in the French international.
The 18-year-old burst onto the scene last season as he lit up the Ligue 1 with 15 sensational strikes. Mbappe led from the front as Monaco cruised to the French title beating the likes of Paris Saint Germain on their way. The French side have been battling pretty hard to keep the player at the club and it would need a world record bid from Barcelona to bring the player to Spain.
Despite being a centre forward, much of his success has come from the left wing so he could be the ideal man to replace the Brazilian. The Catalans are hoping to earn a massive profit over Neymar’s sale so they could use the fund to ease their path.
Barcelona still have two of the most powerful attackers in Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi but it will be very hard to match Neymar’s control on the ball, skill and flair. In Mbappe, the Catalans probably would get a bit more in what could be an upgrade over the Brazilian in the coming days.
Blessed with blistering pace and acute finishing, the French international could also emulate Messi’s form in the near future. The Argentine forward has just moved into his thirties so the Catalans might just need to keep a backup option ready for the future.
Neymar wants to bring his innovative touch to the game as he has been preparing to move out from Messi’s shadow. But in Mbappe’s case, the prospect of playing the second fiddle to the world’s best player might prove to be too lucrative to turn down for the youngster.
Monaco have already lost a bunch of players from their current setup and it remains to be seen whether they are ready to let go of their most prized possession.
