The growing concern over Troy Deeney’s future at Watford has put things on hold as of now. The player who has been with the club since 2010 is on the verge of losing his captaincy as Marco Silva has hinted he might choose a new captain ahead of the new season.
This impasse has led to a pretty awkward situation for both the gaffer and the player. Deeney was given the responsibility to lead the club last season but it was to his misfortune that the club fared very poorly, to finish the season in 17th place in the points table.
The Hornets endured a very difficult campaign under Walter Mazzarri and following a row with the gaffer, Deeney had to sit out for a number of games. However, the appointment of Marco Silva as the new manager has brought a pile of fresh air at the Vicarage Road. Deeney is very popular among the supporters with his goal scoring trades and no manager will want to be at loggerheads with the supporters. The 29-year-old is currently aiming to be back on the field, currently undergoing a rehab process, following his groin surgery.
If he opts to end the long seven-year association with the club, here are three Premier League outfits that will readily accept him:
West Bromwich Albion
There is no doubt over Deeney’s quality as he has proved his worth, year after year, and any club will love to have him on their side. Tony Pulis is thought to be in the search of a goal poacher and Deeney could be the ultimate choice for him. The 29-year-old is perfectly suited for his style of play and will be an updated version of Salomon Rondon. Deeney brings his physical proximity into play and his ability in the box will provide the Baggies with an added advantage.
Leicester City
The Foxes have not dipped much into the transfer market as they have restricted themselves to spending on a limited number of players this summer. Craig Shakespeare has been chasing this Watford star and had also had a bid of £20 m rejected by the Hornets earlier. The Foxes currently have Jamie Vardy, Islam Slimani and Leonardo Ulloa in their ranks but they have been very inconsistent and the arrival of Deeney will inject some much-needed competition to the side.
Swansea City
The Wales side are destined to losing Fernando Llorente as Chelsea have revived their interest in the player. Llorente’s departure will leave Paul Clement, with only one recognised centre forward, in Tammy Abraham and he needs to address this condition. Deeney’s record in the Premier League is pretty exciting and he could spearhead the Swans attack in Llorente’s absence, next season.
