West Ham United could give Michy Batshuayi a respite from his period of lull at Stamford Bridge as they are weighing their options to bring the player to the London Stadium. The youngster hasn’t had opportunities for Chelsea this season since his £33m transfer from Marseille last summer.
Despite his bit part role, the Belgian forward scored probably the most important goal in this season as he netted a late winner against West Bromwich Albion to secure the Premier League title for the Blues. He has mostly played second fiddle to Diego Costa who has been the preferred choice for Antonio Conte. Batshuayi didn’t lose hope and went on to score four late goals in the Premier League. He chipped in with some late goals including a brace against Sunderland on the last day of the season and has the best goal per minute ratio in the Premier League.
Batshuayi had hoped to get some first team action when he had arrived at West London but a severe lack of gameplay has made him frustrated. The 23-year-old has indicated to a move away from the Blues as he expressed his desire to be a full-time player. “I will play where ever Chelsea sends me”.
The forward has shown the desire whenever the team needed him and he could be Slaven Bilic’s main man next season. Bilic has struggled without the services of their main two strikers and Michail Antonio had to intervene up front. Both Diafra Sakho and Andy Carroll’s season have been plagued by injuries and Batshuayi could lend him a hand to solve this crisis. Bilic although has Jonathan Calleri and Andre Ayew at his disposal but they are not up to the mark and Batshuayi would be an upgrade to him.
West Ham are planning to invest significantly in attacking options as they were also planning to sign Jermain Defoe from Sunderland but their plan got foiled as Bournemouth snapped the player recently. Buying Batshuayi at this time wouldn’t be possible for the London club as Chelsea would like to recover most of the money they paid to Marseille. A loan move for the Belgian forward seems fit for both the clubs as Chelsea also would prefer to have the player get some first team game time to groom himself.
Antonio Conte should not have any problem releasing the player as he is destined to make a big signing up front. Should he arrive at the London Stadium, he could enforce some heavy completion amongst the current forwards.
