According to latest reports, West Bromwich Albion are weighing a move for Hull City’s combative midfielder Tom Huddlestone. The former Tottenham Hotspur man was more of a bench player for Marco Silva’s side that couldn’t survive relegation last term, and now with a Premier League interest, could make a move up top.
Following the shocking departure of club skipper Darren Fletcher, Tony Pulis is in the hunt for an anchorman who could replace him potentially and the Premier League veteran could be an interesting option. Pulis is known to work well with not so popular players and who have already stepped on the wrong side of 30. The Welshman had one of the best finishes in the Premier League last season in his managerial career and he intends to build on it next term.
West Bromwich Albion finished in the 10th position of the league table garnering a total of 45 points- the maximum they did in their history of top flight English football. And the conservative midfield was one of their biggest strengths sitting just above the congested backline. The likes of Fletcher, Claudio Yacob and Jake Livermore played a significant role is executing the plan to perfection, and Pulis thinks Huddlestone could bring in a similar effect now.
One of the main reasons why the Baggies couldn’t hold on to their skipper was the former Manchester United man demanding high wages and their current interest in this Tigers’ man is also because of it. Reportedly, the Nottingham-born player has a release clause of as low as £2 million that West Brom can surely give and his experience at the top level makes him the perfect man for Pulis.
A central midfielder, he can play in the central defensive position as well as on the defensive flanks. His versatility could come in hand any club in the Premier League.
An academy product of Derby County, Huddleston made his big move to Tottenham Hotspur back in 2005. A short loan stint with Wolves which turned out to be a failed one was followed by his break into the Spurs first team, where he spent the prime of his career. He has played over 200 games for them scoring 16 goals and registering 30 assists.
His dip in form saw him move to Hull City and he has since been a fluctuating member for both Premier League and Championship. An early bloomer in his professional career, the once England Under 21’s star has seen only four caps for the national team. His burnt out and forgotten stature makes him a perfect player for Tony Pulis man.
