Every summer transfer window brings with itself certain young names, who usually have a promising career ahead with top sides chasing them and pundits predicting them to be one of the future greats. This summer, that category is surely led by Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon, who has almost every top Premier League side after him. And it seems the next player to join him is Bolton Wanderer’s 16-year-old Max Broughton.
If reports are to be believed then the impressing midfielder, who has already broken into Bolton’s Under-18 side with some brilliant outcomes, has the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton after him. And if recent transfers of such unknown talents are to be taken into consideration, then Tottenham looks like his next destination.
Under Argentine manager Mauricio Pochettino, the Lilywhites are emerging as one of the superpowers in Europe. After breaking into the Premier League top four a few seasons back, not only have they been successful in keeping their place there but are now a formidable opponent even for the strongest sides at the top.
And the best thing about that is the boss relying mainly on the likes of Harry Kane, Eric Dier, Dele Alli, Harry Winks, Danny Rose and many more, who are all in their early twenties and were unknown names until a few years back, in achieving that.
The player who has already represented England at the youth level was first spotted by Bolton Wanderers back in 2014 when he was playing for a local team Rossendale United. He was soon given a trial at the club and there has been no looking back for him since then. He was an instant favourite for the staff and signed a scholarship in December 2015.
With United and Spurs locking horns on the youngster yet again, the Manchester outfit will be aware this time of the loss they might incur if they lose out on the starlet. Tottenham had won the race for a certain MK Dons Starlet Dele Alli two years back when they had met, and United still regret it. The midfielder, now 21, is one of Premier League’s best-attacking midfielders scoring 22 goals and assisting 13 times for Spurs last season.
We are expecting a bidding war this time, surely. However, with such a tender prospect at hand, his decision would be the deciding factor and with Everton and Southampton also vying for him, he could surprise many by choosing none of the two big sides. Bolton completed their promotion to Championship last season, but it won’t be enough for the club to hold on to him.
