Mauricio Pochettino has done a decent job with an inexperienced squad at the White Hart Lane but the upcoming season will easily be one of the most important ones in the club’s history. They have qualified for Europe but need to improve in a few positions in the squad next season, if they are to compete for the title and also in Europe.
The Argentine mastermind is busy searching for suitable additions in the transfer market and has been looking high and dry for top class talent. He will be looking to improve the depth and balance in the squad but he will also have to strengthen a few positions in the squad next season. So here are three positions that Pochettino has to concentrate on this summer:
Striker:
Harry Kane has been in sensational form for more than a year but the Spurs hardly have a top class backup for him in the first team. Heung Min-Son has been the best player to replace Kane in the recent season as Vincent Janssen has just not been able to settle in England. Kane will still be the first choice but Pochettino will need a player who can ably replace him, even if it means that he will have to meander from his recruitment model of spending on youngsters. He has to find a number 9 who he can integrate into his first team next season.
Right-Back:
Though Kieran Tripper has done a decent job when Pochettino decided to drop Kyle Walker, the English star is still a while away from a player who can lead Pochettino to a title or in the Champions League. He can still turn into a superstar but the Spurs need a player who can walk into the first team and replace Walker, who is all set to quit the club this summer. This is something Pochettino just cannot ignore.
Winger:
Though the Spurs would want to add another defender to their ranks, they will have to work on bringing in a wide player who can run the flanks. Neither Christian Eriksen nor Dele Alli provides width to the attack and they will need a star who can stretch defences and give them an extra dimension in attack. Moussa Sissoko is expected to be sold this summer while Son may yet stay. But they need a world class winger for sure if they are to get close to the Premier League title.
