Swansea City are reportedly interested in bringing Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham to the Liberty Stadium. The Welsh side have joined the likes of Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion to hijack a move for the talented youngster.
Abraham hogged the limelight after his excellent spell with Bristol City last season in the Championship. In his first professional season, the 19-year-old prodigy has managed to score 23 times for the club. Swansea have a shortage of forwards currently and Paul Clement would likely to give the teenager a taste of the Premier League if he does arrive in Wales. Chelsea are unlikely to let go of one of their prized assets but a loan deal is possible as the player is not in Antonio Conte’s plans as of now.
Abraham is right now with the England U-21 side at the European Championship and he has confirmed that he will have a talk with Chelsea regarding his future at the club. He was supposed to be one of Rafa Benitez’s signing as the Spaniard was ready to take the player on a loan deal but it seems the Magpies now have a very stiff competition.
Swansea City signed Borja Baston from Atletico Madrid in the last transfer window but the Spanish international had a very poor campaign. He appeared in only 18 games this season but his lack of impact was not felt that much as Fernando Llorente played a major role this season. The veteran Spaniard had been in the thick of the action as he scored 15 goals to inspire the Swans to a decent 15th place finish.
But Clement wants to inject some fresh blood into the side in a bid to give Llorente some respite. The 19-year-old is yet to be tested in the English top tier and Clement is ready to take the bet.
Brighton are also in the fray as the recently promoted side is looking for suitable signings to strengthen their side. Tammy has all the qualities in him to prosper on the big stage and Brighton are ready to take their chances.
Abraham is in Chelsea’s long term plans and might sign a new contract with the club to make the stay a little longer. But the West London club wouldn’t mind a loan move for the player and will hope it reaps rich dividends for them.
Swansea will be aiming to achieve a higher finish in the next season after having an awful campaign.
