It seems John Terry has been evaluating the available options for him. The veteran Chelsea defender has held talks with a number of clubs since the season ended but is yet to finalise his destination. But in a recent report, it has been said that the 36-year-old has been assessing a potential move to Swansea City.
Terry has already announced his expected departure from the Stamford Bridge as the Chelsea captain has pulled curtains on his 22-year long Chelsea career. The player has won every trophy available in England but hasn’t been able to display his form in the last season. He had been mostly overlooked by Antonio Conte last season as the Italian gaffer mostly preferred Gary Cahill, Cesar Azpilicueta and David Luiz in the Chelsea backline.
Terry bid a teary goodbye to the supporters on the last day of the Premier League and it is obvious he will like to stay in the Premier League for a couple of more seasons. There would not be a dearth of suitors as the English defender is still very highly regarded in the English top tier. However, Terry would be assessing the best options for him and the chance to play under Paul Clement is certainly one of them.
Clement had a solid time at the Stamford Bridge as Carlo Ancelotti’s deputy and therefore he knows the player pretty well from his Chelsea days. It is expected to be a busy summer for the Swans as the Wales side had a torrid time in the Premier League. They narrowly survived relegation this time and Clement will have to undergo a number of changes to bring back the side more strongly next season.
Swans chairman Huw Jenkins has admitted that there has been movement from their side as Clement has been in touch with Terry and they are waiting for his response.
Terry earlier had been linked with Aston Villa and Bournemouth and the latter were reportedly almost on the verge of sealing a move for the player. Swansea leaked 70 goals in the previous campaign and although they were heavily organised in the defensive department under Clement, there is a need for a leader at the back and Terry can certainly be that player.
Swansea are looking to utilise Clement’s strong ties with the player and might make a formal offer for the player in coming days. The 36 year is in the twilight of his career but could still be an asset for any team.
