There might a famous reunion on the cards, as the present Napoli goalkeeper, Pepe Reina, has been linked with a move back to the Premier League, which might see him playing again under the coaching of Rafa Benitez, who was the coach when he used to play for Liverpool in the English Premier League as well as his current club Napoli, which Benitez left to move to the Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Reina has an illustrious career to show off, most of which has been under the benevolent tutelage of his compatriot, the Spanish coach Rafa Benitez. Now that he has successfully won the Championship this term, Benitez is looking to revamp his side for the next season in which his team will have to face a number of heavyweight clubs including the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and defending champions Chelsea in the next season.
All the present goalkeepers of the Newcastle United side, namely Tim Krul, Karl Darlow and Matz Sels have been in a vulnerable position, as they might be offloaded in the summer and players with much more experience in top flight football might be brought into the side for the next season. Benitez has already lined up a number of names whom he intends to rope in with a view to strengthen his side for the next term.
Reina, while having the experience on his side, his age might be a detriment for him to make a move back into Newcastle United line-up, as Benitez is predominantly looking for players who might have a long future with his club. However, the Spanish coach might not have anything against the mixture of the exuberance of youth and the cool-headedness of the experienced players in his team in the next season.
The Spanish shot-stopper has played for an array of big name clubs, starting with Barcelona in his early years and later on moving on to fellow Spanish La Liga club Villareal. Since then, he has been playing as a first choice keeper in most of the clubs including the likes of Liverpool, where he was brought in by the current Newcastle coach Rafa Benitez and Napoli, where he moved on loan and later on was signed permanently as his short stint with Bayern Munich ended only after one season.
Napoli, however, is looking to not let go off their prized possession in the summer with Reina having left one more year on his contract with them. Reportedly, his agent is in discussion over his future with the Italian club.
