In Celtic’s sensational domestic treble win, many players thrived and excelled beyond expectations as Brendan Rodgers masterminded an upbringing of huge dividends during the season which just concluded.
Speaking in an unabashed manner, one must not refuse to admit that the Bhoys seemingly appeared to be miles ahead of their fellow Scottish domestic sides and it goes without saying that Rodgers has created a side which looks staggeringly threatening on paper as well on the pitch.
However, the process of such a stellar run of form shouldn’t stop and the former Liverpool boss should attempt to keep the confidence level as well as the group cohesiveness intact.
Rewarding the productive players with a new contract should also be prioritised and without any shadow of doubt, one of the players who should be handed an extension to stay at the Celtic Park is Stuart Armstrong as the 25-year-old played an instrumental role in uplifting the offensive flamboyance under Rodgers.
Having signed from Dundee United in the winter transfer window of 2015, Armstrong was unable to make his presence felt immediately. He stagnated during the reign of Ronny Deila owing to the fact that the former gaffer diluted many of his traits by stationing him out wide on the left wing.
But ever since Rodgers took the charges of the club, Armstrong has been a revelation as the former Dundee United man not only drawn a fine name for himself as a creative player but also kept banging goals left right and centre for the Hoops. He scored 17 goals and created 7 assists last season for his club and eventually turned out to be a massive player for the Glasgow giants and the fact that he prefers to remain at his current club which puts the ball in Celtic’s court.
A shrewd midfielder who has scintillating vision and is a meticulous passer of the ball, Armstrong’s contract expires next year and thus, it is about time that he is tied down with a new long-term deal.
Celtic, after having established a strong domestic footing on the Scottish soil, would now be inclined to create a better stature for themselves in the Champions League and someone like Scottish international could be the one who could adequately meet their needs. He had looked better and better as the season progressed and could go on to lead the green and white crops as the skipper in times to come.
