Rangers have reportedly finished the signing of yet another player this summer, this time Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos. The HJK Helsinki forward has been in phenomenal form the last term in Finnish league Veikkausliiga, catching the attention of numerous clubs. And Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha did a brilliant job of plucking him before anyone else.
This marks the fifth signing for the former Scottish giants this summer, which definitely seems like an age of change for the Teddy Bears following an underwhelming return to first-tier Scottish football. They found themselves in all sorts of trouble at the beginning which even saw the club removing their former manager from the helm midseason.
The new Portuguese boss had a huge task ahead of him when he took over the reins of the historic club back in March with only two months to go before the season ended. And he has undoubtedly done a terrific job of keeping them in the top half of the table and also recognising their shortcomings at such a short time.
The purchase of this striker means, Rangers have now strengthened almost every position. The side bought two defenders in Bruno Alves and Fabio Cardoso, a disciplined midfielder in Ryan Jack who can hold it well under pressure and a savvy winger in Dalcio who can twist and turn his way out of difficult situations.
Everything considered, this buy is definitely the most important buy for the side of all. Rangers have struggled immensely in front of the goal last season, especially if compared to the two teams above them- Celtic and Aberdeen. While Celtic are miles ahead with 106 goals in a 14.5 percent conversion rate, Aberdeen had put in 74 goals with 12 percent conversion rate. Rangers, in comparison, have scored only 54 times.
The Colombian international has managed to score 21 times and provide five assists last season, reflecting his scoring prowess. Yes, the lower competitiveness of the league could be argued for sure, but the player has surely shown enough potential to impress Caixinha.
An academy product of Independiente Medellín, Morelos was loaned off to HJK Helsinki in the winter of 2016. He managed to get an impressive 16 goal debut season in the Veikkausliiga and the side decided to extend his stay. In 62 games for the Finland club so far, the striker has scored 47 goals and provided 13 assists.
For the Colombian Under 20, he has already scored eight goals in six games and if things go well for him, then Rangers have unearthed a potential star in the South American player.
