Newcastle United are ready to flex their muscle in the transfer market as they are ready to place a bid for Hellas Verona midfielder Romulo. Rafa Benitez is looking for some potential players for his recently promoted side as the Magpies will be launching their challenge in the Premier League next season.
The Toon are yet to sign any player in the transfer window despite coming close for a few times. The Brazilian-born Italian switched his allegiance to the European country and was even in the provisional squad of the Italian World Cup squad in 2014 but failed to make the final cut.
The midfielder took a chance by moving to Italy and was an instant hit as he juggled between a couple of sides including Fiorentina and Hellas Verona. His impressive skills even earned him a loan move with an option to make it permanent to Italian champions Juventus but the 30-year-old was very unfortunate as he failed to pull the strings in the centre of the pitch for the Old Lady after an injury-ravaged campaign.
He came back to Hellas Verona in the 2015/16 season and in the following season he arguably has produced his best form in his career so far. The midfielder scored four goals and racked up nine assists in the Serie B helping them secure a promotion.
Benitez kept a tab on the player during his stint with Napoli and now wants the player at the St James Park. Predominantly a central midfielder, the player has been used in a number of positions across the field and has been equally successful in each position.
Benitez guided the team to the Championship title last season and would be looking forward towards constructing a formidable side. The Magpies would be aiming for a place in the top ten positions and any result better than this will be regarded as a bonus.
Benitez had a very rigorous season with the Toon and had dominated the Championship throughout the season. But the Spaniard wants more reinforcements as he thinks the squad is far from being sufficiently equipped in terms of competing in the English top tier.
Incidentally, Hellas Verona is being managed by Fabio Pecchia who happens to be the former deputy of Benitez so a transfer would not be as difficult as one would have assumed.
The box to box midfielder would add a different dynamism to the Newcastle midfield which already has the likes of Jonjo Shelvey, Mohamed Diame and Isaac Hayden.
