Newcastle United are the frontrunners to land Porto striker Vincent Aboubakar. The Magpies are on the verge of completing a £9m move for the Cameroonian striker. The 25-year-old spent the last season on loan at Besiktas and had an excellent campaign for the Turkish side.
Besiktas have had talks with Porto as they are very eager to keep the player at the club but the intervention of the Magpies has spoiled the deal. Newcastle are likely to offer more lucrative wages and terms than Besiktas to hijack a deal for the player. The 25-year-old scored 19 goals in all competitions and could be the first of many signings for the Toons. A salary of £2.5m will be offered to the player.
Newcastle United are looking to make some more signings as they are also contemplating a bid for Eibar defender Florian Lejeune. Rafa Benitez’s side have reportedly exercised his release clause which is in the tune of £8.7m and an announcement could be made anytime now.
After failing to clinch a spot in the starting eleven he was shipped out on loan all the way to Turkey and has blossomed in the Turkish top tier. He incidentally scored the winner for Cameroon as the country went on to lift the African Cup Of Nations title.
Benitez already has a significant number of forwards at his disposal with the likes of Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic. But Gayle has his injury problem while Mitrovic could be offloaded in an attempt to clear some wages. The Cameroon international might be tempted by the lure to play in one of the most exciting football leagues around the world.
Benitez has been handed a hefty transfer kitty to choose his wish list of players and will be looking to strengthen his squad sufficiently. He will be looking for a standout striker to ease the pressure on Dwight Gayle. Aboubakar has raw pace and has the physique to deal ith the Premier League defenders. He also has the ability to let the ball fly and would be an ideal addition for the Magpies.
A very strong and powerful player, he could be that X-factor Newcastle have been looking for. Benitez is understandably choosy regarding his targets and has been taking time unlike in the last summer before the Championship and the fans will be more than happy to show patience as the Rafalution takes its own course.
