Newcastle United are looking desperate to make a good start to the next season, which is their comeback term in the Premier League and are in dire need of a number of good players to be brought into the side to compete with the sides like Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal and defending champions Chelsea. Among a number of players, who have been linked with the Magpies in the recent times is the Brazilian midfielder, Fernando.
The Brazilian is currently playing for the Premier League side Manchester City and has been more of a player to sit out on the sidelines rather than taking part in the action on the pitch. This has reportedly made him disappointed and the player is looking to make a move out of the Etihad Stadium in the new transfer window.
The Spanish manager of Newcastle United, Rafa Benitez, has been much impressed by the Brazilian in whatever he has seen of him on the pitch and is quite determined to make him his first signing for strengthening his side for the next season. His interest in the City midfielder has been keenly contested by fellow Premier League side Bournemouth, who are looking to strengthen their side for the next season as well.
Manchester City, reportedly, has valued the 29-year-old at a price of £8 million. However, the Magpies boss Rafa Benitez is quite confident that he can land the midfielder for a meagre £5 million in the summer transfer window that is coming up. There has been, though, no negotiations between the two clubs over the prescribed price for Fernando, who came into Manchester City three years ago under the tutelage of their former manager Manuel Pellegrini from Portuguese Primeira Liga side FC Porto.
Fernando has fallen down the pecking order under the coaching of the new manager Pep Guardiola and is likely to leave the team at a price lesser than the prescribed one which is amounted to £12 million when he was brought into the side. He has featured in only five matches in the last season for Manchester City and has 12 months left on his current contract with the Citizens, which is likely not to be extended in the future.
Newcastle United can use the powerful presence of the Brazilian ace in the heart of their midfield and fend off their opponents to make inroads into their defence past the watchful eyes of Fernando.
