Manchester United are expected to be one of the busiest sides in the transfer market this summer as Jose Mourinho has huge plans for his squad for the next season. They have qualified for the Champions League and will now look to add some top class players to their first team, this summer and one name that is now close to a move to Old Trafford is PSG star Blaise Matuidi.
According to English news outfit Mirror, the 30-year old is stalling on a new contract with his current side PSG and is ready for a move to Manchester United, while Arsenal are also interested. With less than a year left on his contract, Matuidi will be available on the cheap so is he the right man for Manchester United?
Having spent a world record fee on Paul Pogba, Jose Mourinho will now have to spend big yet again to find an able partner for his French midfielder and bringing one of Pogba’s national teammates for this role is not a bad idea.
With more than 300 League 1 appearances and 50 national appearances, Matuidi is one of the most experienced midfielders currently in Europe. Strong and stubborn, the 30-year old is a defensive midfielder who can hold on to the ball and shield the area just in front of his back line.
With seven goals and seven assists in more than 50 games in all competitions, Matuidi has shown that he is a decent option in attack as well but Manchester United will need him to play as the deepest of the midfielders while Pogba can run ragged in an attacking role.
Ander Herrera has done a good job there and could keep his place as a part of the midfield trio and Manchester United might just be able to solve their midfield problems with this PSG star.
Strong with his tackling and concentration, Matuidi is adept at acting as the first line of defence for his side and he will surely add some mettle to the midfield for United. He is also available on the cheap and is a decent option but his age is what will put United off.
At 30, he can play a whole year in the midfield at Old Trafford but United will be pushed into a similar search of a midfielder a year later if they decided to stick with Matuidi for the next season. His experience and attributes make him perfect for the Red Devils but is he the right solution to their problems in the midfield?
