Manchester City have ended a rather uneventful season in the recently concluded Premier League campaign and is looking to make it a good season in the next term by bringing in players who can be able to fix the problems they have been facing throughout the season.
The defensive area, especially the left back position has been one of the biggest headaches for the Citizens this term, and their current manager has not been able to find a proper answer for the position so far. The situation has become even more complicated with their veteran left back Gael Clichy leaving the club on the completion of his term at the end of this season.
Reportedly, the current Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has been looking to bring in the English left-back Ryan Bertrand from Southampton to end his side’s defensive problems in the next season. The England International has been an integral part of a resilient Southampton side throughout the season and has displayed some great prowess on the field that has attracted interests from a number of big-name clubs in the Premier League.
Bertrand has been superb in the left-back position in this year’s Premier League. His phenomenal display for The Saints in the present season has made him one of the most highly rated players undoubtedly, and Manchester City desperately want to get him in the team.
Reportedly, the Citizens have also put their interest into the Monaco left-back Benjamin Mendy. However, the French champions have put a hefty price tag on their prized possession which amounts to £40 million, as they have done to almost all their players after a great season in domestic as well as European tournaments. This has almost put the deal to bag the French left back off the table, as Manchester City are showing to bag the England international for the next season.
The Citizens are supposed to make a move for the England international in the coming week to make him wear their colours for the next season. However, it is not that they will not be facing resistance from the Saints who are not willing to let go of their full back in the summer transfer window, though the deal is looking quite likely to end in favour of Manchester City.
Speculations are rife that if The Saints are to let go of their prized player to any other club in the next season, they are going to demand somewhat around £25 million for the England international, with defending champions Chelsea also looking to bag him.
